Cold Room Gas Refill and Commercial Refrigeration Regas

Cold room gas refill restores the correct refrigerant charge after an F-Gas certified engineer finds and repairs any leak, then recharges and tests your commercial fridge, freezer, cold room or cellar cooling system from £120 + VAT across London and the M25.

A refrigeration system does not consume refrigerant during normal operation. If the charge is low, there is usually a leak or a previous repair has left the circuit incorrectly charged. Simply adding more gas can give short-lived cooling while allowing refrigerant to escape again. Our engineers diagnose the cause, confirm the refrigerant and system condition, and explain the repair before any recharge is completed.

We carry out commercial refrigeration regas work in accordance with the F-Gas Regulations 2014. Refrigerant handling, recovery and charging are completed by F-Gas certified engineers, with the relevant service details recorded so facilities teams, operators and landlords can maintain a clear equipment history.

What the Regas Service Covers

We work on walk-in cold rooms, commercial fridges, upright and chest freezers, display fridges, serve-over counters, bottle coolers, cellar cooling systems and suitable central refrigeration plant. The visit begins with equipment identification, temperature checks and a review of any alarm or service history.

  • Cold rooms and walk-in freezers
  • Display fridges and chilled cabinets
  • Commercial fridges and freezers
  • Cellar cooling and bottle coolers
  • Electronic leak detection and pressure testing
  • Recovery, evacuation, measured recharge and performance testing

For fixed air-conditioning equipment, our engineers also work with R32, R410A and R407C where appropriate. Refrigeration equipment commonly uses different gases, including R404A and lower-GWP replacements such as R448A and R449A. Refrigerants are not interchangeable: the system design, compressor, oil, controls and manufacturer guidance must be checked before any conversion.

Signs Your Refrigeration System May Need a Regas

Low refrigerant charge can resemble airflow, sensor, defrost or compressor faults, so diagnosis matters. Arrange an inspection if the room or cabinet is taking longer to reach temperature, running continuously, showing repeated high-temperature alarms or struggling during busy periods.

  • Reduced cooling: food, drinks or stock remain above their normal set point despite long compressor run times.
  • Ice in unusual places: localised frosting on pipework or part of the evaporator can indicate an undercharged circuit.
  • Oil staining: oily residue around joints, valves or coils can help identify a refrigerant leak.
  • Previous top-ups: repeated commercial fridge regas visits without a documented repair suggest the underlying leak remains.

Our Leak-Test and Recharge Process

  1. 1

    Inspect and diagnose

We check temperatures, pressures, controls, airflow and the condition of the refrigeration circuit. The engineer confirms the refrigerant type and whether low charge is the likely fault.

  2. 2

    Find and repair the leak

We use suitable electronic detection and pressure-testing methods. If a leak is found, we explain the repair and obtain approval before proceeding rather than repeatedly topping up a faulty circuit.

  3. 3

    Recover and evacuate

Where required, remaining refrigerant is recovered correctly. After the repair, the circuit is pressure tested, vacuumed and checked before the replacement charge is introduced.

  4. 4

    Recharge and prove performance

The engineer charges by the correct method, then checks operating pressures, superheat, subcooling and temperatures. You receive a service record stating the work and refrigerant handled.

R404A Phase-Out and Replacement Refrigerants

R404A has a high global warming potential and is affected by F-Gas phase-down controls. Availability, cost and restrictions make an automatic R404A top-up a poor long-term decision for many older systems. An engineer should first confirm whether reclaimed refrigerant can lawfully and practically be used or whether retrofit or replacement is more sensible.

R448A and R449A are widely considered for suitable commercial refrigeration conversions, but neither is a universal drop-in gas. We assess equipment compatibility, application temperature, compressor operating envelope, lubricant and control settings before recommending an R404A refrigerant replacement. The written recommendation separates the immediate repair from longer-term upgrade options.

Commercial Refrigeration Regas Across London and the M25

We attend restaurants, hotels, pubs, cafés, convenience stores, supermarkets, food-production sites, schools, care homes and managed commercial buildings throughout London and the M25 area. Same-day and next-day appointments are available subject to engineer capacity and refrigerant requirements. Tell us the equipment make, model, refrigerant shown on the data plate and current temperature when booking so the engineer can arrive prepared.

Commercial Fridge Regas Pricing From £120 + VAT

Commercial refrigeration regas starts from £120 + VAT. This starting price is for the recharge service; the final quote depends on refrigerant type and quantity, access, recovery requirements, leak testing and any repair needed. We confirm costs before work proceeds.

Leak repairs, components and refrigerant conversions are quoted according to the diagnosed fault and equipment specification.

Commercial Refrigeration Regas FAQs

How much does a commercial refrigeration regas cost?+

Commercial refrigeration regas starts from £120 + VAT. The final price depends on the refrigerant type, the charge required, access and whether a leak needs repairing. We provide a written quote before adding refrigerant or completing repairs.

Can you refill the gas in a cold room or commercial fridge?+

Yes. We recharge cold rooms, walk-in freezers, display fridges, bottle coolers, cellar cooling systems and other commercial refrigeration equipment. An F-Gas certified engineer first confirms the correct refrigerant and checks why the charge was lost.

Can R404A refrigerant still be used?+

R404A is a high-global-warming-potential refrigerant subject to phase-down restrictions. Reclaimed refrigerant may be suitable in limited circumstances, but many systems are better assessed for conversion to a lower-GWP alternative such as R448A or R449A. Compatibility must be confirmed for each system.

Do you repair the leak before recharging the system?+

Yes. Refrigerant should not be added repeatedly to a leaking system. We inspect the circuit, carry out appropriate leak detection and pressure testing, quote for the repair, evacuate the system and recharge it to the manufacturer's specification.

Are commercial refrigeration leak checks mandatory?+

F-Gas leak-check duties apply to equipment above the relevant CO₂-equivalent charge thresholds. The required interval depends on the refrigerant charge and whether fixed leak detection is installed. We can inspect your equipment, update the F-Gas record and advise on the applicable schedule.
